Governor, do you really understand?

Dear Governor Culver,

It’s disappointing to read in the news that you are supporting the preferred plan of Cedar Rapids and not the plan the Corp of Engineers is recommending.  Do you realize that the Mayor’s plan involves tearing our homes down?  He can’t use eminent domain at this time so they are using coercion and fear to get what they want, our land.

Governor, you’ve got adorable children.  How happy would they be if every day they saw their neighborhood being demolished?  How would they feel if they also saw pictures showing soccer fields and green spaces where their house is?  Would your kids feel safe and secure? This happens to children in the Time Check Neighborhood everyday.

The bulldozers are passing my house daily as they begin demolishing more homes on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids.  So many people want to rebuild.  Isn’t there some way that we can help restore these homes instead of demolishing them?  I know there is because if these same homes were located three blocks away they would be worked on by the Block by Block program, an excellent program.

Governor, why are so many discriminated against?  Why can’t Block by Block come into Czech Village?  The homes close to the river on the west side?  Please treat all of the citizens of Cedar Rapids equally.

Sincerely,

Kathy Potts
